This is a challenging role in any Field Trial Club or Society. As an Open Stake Club, we are permitted to hold Open Stakes for both Cocker Spaniels and Any Variety Spaniels. Alongside these, in a normal season, we would also hold Novice Stakes, one for Cocker Spaniels and one (sometimes two) for Any Variety Spaniels. Over the years we have developed good relationships with Landowners who are generous enough to allow us to hold our Field Trials on their land so the incoming Field Trial Secretary will have the necessary contacts available to them when it comes to selecting suitable grounds. Having said that, we are always on the lookout for new grounds. Organising Field Trials for the Newcomer can be quite daunting as there are lots of things to do before the Trial. The administrative part of the job involves a good knowledge of the Kennel Club "J" Regulations but don't worry if you are completely new as we have a wealth of knowledge within the Committee and everyone will be keen to make sure you have the best possible support.
This role is not unlike that of the Field Trial Secretary and arguably, just as important due to the ever increasing interest in our sport.
